5 E-Bike Brands in Ireland: Prices and Cycle to Work Options (2026)
For a ground-level commute in Ireland, start with Giant Explore E+ 4; compare Brompton Electric C Line when folding storage is the limiting task. KUMA adds an Irish-brand city/cargo route, and Trek adds other Irish-market builds. Riese & Müller Nevo5 Core is a step-through alternative whose dated listing showed pre-order status. The five brands serve different jobs. This guide compares documented local offers rather than ranking reliability. Cycle to Work can change the tax treatment, but its €1,500 ordinary e-bike limit is not a €1,500 discount.

Three Irish buying situations that lead to different shortlists
Your commute stays on the road and your bike stays at ground level
Start with the Giant Explore E+ 4 or 4 Stagger, both listed at €2,999 in the Irish catalogue on 29 September 2026. They give you conventional and lower-step frame choices at the same displayed price. For this task, compare the frame that fits before paying for a folding mechanism. Trek’s Irish city range and KUMA’s R1/S2 are additional alternatives, but their complete prices are not established in this guide; they cannot yet be declared cheaper.
Your journey includes stairs, a train or limited indoor storage
Brompton Electric C Line is the relevant format among the priced examples. Its Irish retailer price was €3,450 on 21 September, €451 above the €2,999 Giant observation. That premium addresses a different storage and carrying task, not proven superior ride quality. The Irish listing must identify the electric generation before weights from a UK review are applied. Retain Brompton if compact folding solves your route; exclude it if the actual carrying demonstration fails. The rail conditions below can rule out a journey even when the bike fits at home.
You want a step-through bike but have a fixed delivery deadline
Greenaer’s Nevo5 Core listing showed €3,999 and pre-order status when rechecked on 29 September. It sits €1,000 above the Giant examples, but the listing does not establish a delivery date. Keep it for a configuration-led comparison if you can wait; do not choose it for an imminent commute without a committed handover date. The German Nevo5 silent CORE specification elsewhere on this site must not be assumed to describe this Irish retailer’s Core build.
For children or substantial cargo, open a separate comparison of KUMA Alpa/Uco and appropriate cargo models. The Nevo5’s low step-through frame does not by itself make it a cargo substitute. For Cycle to Work buyers, use the eligibility explanation below before calculating personal cost; none of these advertised prices should simply have the scheme limit subtracted.
The shortlist now leaves two personal checks: whether the exact bike fits your body and journey, and whether the seller can supply and support that unit. It does not require you to rediscover the price, format and pre-order differences above.
Five brands available in Ireland: origin and local sales are different
A brand’s origin, the location of a retailer and the place where a particular bicycle was made are separate facts. An Irish shop listing establishes a possible buying route, not Irish manufacture or automatic manufacturer authorisation. The table keeps those distinctions visible.
| Brand and origin | Irish-market evidence | Model example; dated prices where shown | Buyer question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Giant — Taiwan | Brand-owned Ireland catalogue | Explore E+ 4: €2,999 | Which local shop can supply your size and support the electrical system? |
| Brompton — UK | Cycle Superstore Irish retail listing; Electric-specific authorisation still to confirm | Electric C Line: €3,450 | Can you carry the exact build and obtain Electric-specific servicing? |
| Riese & Müller — Germany | Greenaer Irish retail listing; confirm authorisation and configured order | Nevo5 core: €3,999, listed as pre-order | What configuration and delivery date will appear on the order? |
| KUMA — Irish brand; company states Irish design | Brand-owned Irish site and named Cork, Galway and Dublin-area stores | R1 / S2 city models; Alpa or Uco cargo layouts (request a current quote) | Separate KUMA-branded bikes from other brands stocked on the same website. |
| Trek — US-origin brand | Brand-owned Republic of Ireland catalogue with euro listings | District+ / Allant+; other families serve different jobs (request a current quote) | Confirm the particular Irish retailer, size and fitted accessories. |
These are advertised prices observed on the date above, not reserved stock or quotes. Accessories, size, model year and services can change the total. Brand histories are available from Giant, Brompton and Riese & Müller. We do not infer a model’s manufacturing country from those histories.
Giant Explore E+ 4: an equipped trekking commuter, with a chain drivetrain
The 2026 Ireland model specification lists €2,999, SyncDrive Sport2 with 75 Nm, a 500 Wh battery, nine-speed Shimano CUES chain transmission and hydraulic disc brakes. Lighting, mudguards and a MIK carrier make it a relevant complete-bike comparison for commuting. The carrier description establishes bag/basket compatibility, not passenger approval.
Read the numbered model specification rather than the family marketing: the Explore E+ page discusses belt drive on selected models, but the E+ 4 specification lists a chain. Its 500 Wh listing is also different from the larger packs on other Explore versions. Use the belt-versus-chain guide if maintenance is decisive. Giant does not publish one exact weight here; ask the shop to weigh the supplied size before planning a stair carry. These are manufacturer specifications reviewed 8 October 2026, not Jimsen range or climbing tests.
Brompton: identify the electric generation before comparing carrying weight
Cycle Superstore’s €3,450 listing describes the e-Motiq Electric C Line and a four-speed build. That identifies more than a generic C Line name. Brompton’s e-Motiq family page publishes starting weights of 17.3 kg including the battery and 13.8 kg without it. These are family starting figures, not the measured weight of the Irish retailer’s selected bicycle or proof of available stock.
A detachable battery can divide a carrying task into separate loads; it does not remove the need to carry both. Compare the actual assembled bike, battery and normal bag during a demonstration. Keep older front-motor Electric C Line reviews separate from this e-Motiq reference. Brompton’s purchase guidance identifies Electric-specific retailer support, which still needs confirmation for the supplying shop. Specification and generation information reviewed 8 October 2026.
Buying for a rail commute: check the full journey
Irish Rail’s bicycle guidance, checked on 29 September 2026, distinguishes reserved InterCity bike spaces from DART and Commuter carriage. Ordinary bicycles face weekday peak-time restrictions on DART and Commuter services; folded and covered bikes have a separate allowance. Its published rack dimensions include a 65 mm maximum tyre width.
Use that information to test your proposed journey, not to assume every electric folder is accepted. Confirm the exact electric model, folded dimensions, service and any operator-specific conditions before purchase. Then rehearse carrying it through the station with your bag. A bike that rides well but cannot complete the rail leg is the wrong commuter for that route.
Riese & Müller: separate a configuration from a delivery promise
Greenaer’s Nevo5 core listing showed €3,999 and pre-order status, with dispatch timing undetermined when checked. That is a useful distinction: an advertised price can be verifiable while availability is unresolved. Ask for a dated order confirmation before planning a commute around delivery.
A step-through candidate deserves a test when mounting access and the riding position matter more than a compact fold. Compare it with other suitable frames in person. A premium brand or price does not prove that the bicycle fits your body, clears your storage route or requires less maintenance.
Ask the retailer to list the actual motor, battery, transmission, suspension components and accessories in the ordered build. Avoid inferring “full suspension” or other system specifications from loose retail wording. Request the applicable manual and service arrangements for that build, then compare the confirmed package rather than a family-level description.
KUMA: an Irish brand with city and compact-cargo comparisons
KUMA gives this guide an Irish-brand example rather than another overseas brand with an Irish retailer. Its official site lists R1 and S2 city bikes alongside Alpa and Uco cargo options, with named stores in Cork, Galway and the Dublin area. It also sells bicycles from other brands, so check the maker shown on the actual listing instead of treating everything on the site as KUMA-made. Compare the approved carrying setup and parking space for a cargo model with a solo commuter. Ask the chosen store for a complete euro quotation, a demonstration and the electrical-service arrangement. Irish design is not proof of Irish manufacture.

Trek: compare an Irish-market build with the Giant option
Trek’s Ireland catalogue includes District+ and Allant+ choices alongside cargo and sport-oriented families. For everyday transport, compare an appropriate equipped build with the Giant example above, using the same route, luggage and budget. A large regional catalogue is not proof that the local shop has a suitable demonstration bike. Contact the supplying retailer with the exact model, size and accessory needs, and ask who handles electrical diagnosis after purchase. If using Cycle to Work, obtain the employer’s approval process before ordering; a bicycle’s presence in the catalogue does not establish your personal tax saving.

Cycle to Work: what happens above the €1,500 e-bike limit?
Revenue’s Cycle to Work guidance sets limits of €1,500 for pedelecs/e-bikes and €3,000 for cargo/e-cargo bikes, including qualifying safety equipment. Your employer must buy the bicycle; buying it yourself and being reimbursed does not qualify for the exemption. Employer participation is optional. The scheme generally permits use once in four years and applies to qualifying commuting journeys; second-hand bicycles and mopeds are excluded. Confirm eligibility and payroll treatment with your employer before paying.
A bicycle can cost more than the limit. Revenue states that Income Tax, USC and PRSI apply to the excess. The following arithmetic separates the advertised bike price from the ordinary e-bike exemption ceiling; it does not calculate your tax saving.
| Dated bike-price example | Potentially within €1,500 ceiling | Price above ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| Giant example: €2,999 | €1,500 | €1,499 |
| Brompton example: €3,450 | €1,500 | €1,950 |
Assumptions: qualifying new ordinary e-bike, no additional equipment, employer participation and individual eligibility. These columns are not your take-home payments. Any safety equipment included in the same purchase uses the same limit. Compare payroll’s confirmed treatment of the two complete quotes rather than subtracting €1,500 from each. The higher cargo-bike ceiling requires a qualifying cargo bicycle; a luggage rack alone does not establish eligibility. Revenue guidance reviewed 8 October 2026.
Confirm which vehicle you are buying
Irish Road Safety Authority guidance distinguishes ordinary pedal-assisted e-bikes from other powered vehicle categories. For the ordinary category, assistance operates while pedalling, maximum continuous rated motor power is 250 W, and assistance cuts off before 25 km/h. Do not assume a model is in that category because its brand also sells compliant bicycles. Ask for the exact specification; e-mopeds require a separate rules check.
A quote checklist that makes the comparison useful
- Fit and daily task: frame size, mounting, controls, luggage and storage route tested or measured.
- Exact bicycle: model year, configuration, battery identity and supplied charger recorded.
- Ready-to-ride price: assembly, delivery, accessories and included adjustments itemised.
- Availability: stock versus pre-order, expected date and cancellation terms confirmed.
- Support: named workshop, diagnostic capability, warranty-claim process and possible labour or transport costs explained.
- Longer-term parts: ask how the correct battery, display, charger and wear parts are identified and ordered.
For a rural buyer, include the journey to the workshop in the decision. A lower purchase price can be less useful if every electrical diagnosis requires difficult transport. Ask what can be assessed remotely and what requires bringing in the whole bicycle. Do not assume remote advice replaces a physical safety inspection.
After purchase, use a model-led maintenance plan. If considering a used alternative, read the limits of battery-health checks; a full charge display alone cannot establish remaining capacity.
Common buying questions
Which e-bike brand is best in Ireland?
For an equipped ground-level commute, start with the priced Giant Explore example. Choose the Brompton comparison when a compact fold solves your storage task, or KUMA for an Irish-brand city/cargo alternative. Consider Nevo5 only with an acceptable configuration and handover date. These task-based picks do not establish comparative reliability.
Does an Irish website prove official dealer status?
No. A retailer listing and manufacturer authorisation are different evidence. Confirm the shop through the brand’s current dealer or support channel, particularly for electrical diagnostics and warranty work.
Should I choose a folding bike or a full-size commuter?
Start with the limiting task. If you must repeatedly fold and carry it, test that task first. If the bicycle stays at ground level, concentrate on fit, luggage and your route instead of paying for a fold you will not use.
What should an importer compare instead?
Retail brand selection does not qualify a manufacturing supplier. Dealers developing a product line should use our procurement guide to separate specifications, compliance evidence, quality checks and after-sales responsibilities.
Next step: shortlist two suitable models, request comparable written quotes and book a fit demonstration. Brands and retailers may submit factual corrections with a current source. Prices and channel arrangements will be rechecked when this guide is updated.
